Blooming Friday/Leopard Lily And Euphorbia milii

It's the first Blooming Friday of the month! Welcome! This Spotted
Dove came to check out my mango tree as a possible nesting site. Its
mate was amidst the leaves and there was a lot of cooing and flying
to and fro...Decision making takes time!!

Although in other gardens, the leopard lilies have stopped blooming,
mine has chosen to put up a show now. A single bloom to start with,
but any beginning, is exciting! The other blooms at the moment are the
Crown of Thorns/Euphorbia milii.

The mango tree has been a hot favourite with raucous crows. I'll have
to wait and see whether this lovely pair of doves picks it to raise a
family.

For more Blooming Friday posts, please visit Katarina at Roses and Stuff

Have a great weekend everyone! I'll be out of town for a couple of
days. A short break from this heat (hottest month of the decade!)
will be a refreshing change. I'll visit you once I get back.

Hello Kanak! It is so nice to see that Leopard Lily here. I like this plant! Recently, I have been noticing Euphorbia Mili varieties. Though the bigger versions are more attractive but the small one still has its own charm. I like to watch how the flower grow taller :-)

Like the Tiger lilies, they are so self sufficient, so beautiful. Euphorbia millii, some of my favourites too. It is very dry now so I am happy to have plants
which do not need all the time to be watered.
The doves are so cute, it is special to have them in the garden nesting. I hope they find a place that suits them fine! Thank you Kanak, for your comments, very much appreciated.

Love the pics of the doves Kanak. Is that leopard lily related to Blackberry lily. The bloom looks almost the same.

Have a great trip and weekend.

Hi Kanak, Such pretty blooms and like Susie, the leopard lily looks like our blackberry lilies. We are finally getting relief from the heat and rain. Blessings to you as you travel. My prayers are with you and your family. Take care.

Mangos, how sweet the sound :)

Kanak ~ I hope the doves nest in your tree. We had a pair nest in a tree outside our living room window years ago and watched them raise two little ones. That was fun. I love your lily and your yellow crown of thorn blooms also. Have a great weekend in cooler weather.

What beautiful flowers. Your dove looks like the kind we have here in Arizona. I think my favorite photo is the Crown of Thorns. We can grow them here, but I have never tried them. Maybe I should.....

Beautiful flowers. I especially love the leopard lily. Its exotic. Some day do feature some orchids i heard they grow in abundance there.

Leopard lily is really nice and so are the euphorbia. Do you have the crimson one too?

Both the Leopard Lily and the Euphorbias are great looking flowers! -Enjoy your vacation, Kanak!

Had no idea Crown of Thorns came in so many colours. Only saw red here.

Prospero said...

Kanak, the various colors of crown-of-thorns are quite attractive (especially the two-toned one).
I envy your mango tree. In Bermuda, they are quite rare.

Gotta love that euphorbia. Your white blooming one looks great. I haven't seen that one so often. But I like it. I think I'll look about for it. The dove looks so restful in your tree. Hope they stay, too.

I'm not sure I've seen Euphorbia millii before; it looks wonderful, and very different from the native NA E. corollata. Those beautiful doves look a lot like our Mourning Dove, which has a lovely low cooing call that always reminds me of summer twilights.

lovely photos of the dove. Looks like he's trying to fid a bit of respite from the heat too.

Hi. Inside, I have a great Crown of Thorns (Christ's crown of thorns). In ten years it has grown and needs to be cut down. your flowers is beautiful.
Flower would not survive if it were outside. You are lucky to have a good climate. Have a nice weekend Margareta

I like the leopard lily and yellow euphorbia. I think the leopard lily flower looks more like an orchid than a lily. With the beautiful doves here, your garden is complete with flora and fauna. Kanak, I wish you a wonderful weekend. I just returned from my my festive travel outstation.

Thank you all for stopping by. I had a great vacation....will be posting soon.

***********************************

Steph, I don't have the bigger varieties but I think I should start. My neighbour's got one and the blooms are spectacular.

Trudi, exactly what I feel about birds nesting in my trees. I'm happy to read your comment. And about these plants, so true. They need very little care.

Susie, they are the same. I knew the other name from Blotanical only recently.

Mildred, thank you for all your wishes. The Blackberry lily is the same. And I didn't go to my parents' place this time but to the neighbouring state of Meghalaya. But we did return to a cloudy day and showers in the evening.

Padma, thank you so much! Will be posting about Shillong and nearby areas.

Randi, thank you so much!

Lillebeth, thanks. They were still there yesterday but it's all so quiet now. Maybe they've gone somewhere else in the vicinity.

Mia, thanks!

Flower Lady, they've nested in our shed before. Still keeping my fingers crossed. Glad you liked the blooms.

Helen, thanks! Happy to read your comment.

Carol, thank you so much!

Easygardener, it did! But no sign of alarm as yet:)

azplantlady, thank you for stopping by....will 'see' you soon!

Chaitra, thinking of including them soon! Glad you liked the blooms.

UG, yes, I have the crimson one too...not blooming right now.

Unknown said...

Katarina, thanks. Hope you had a great weekend too!

Diana, thank you for stopping by.

Prospero, glad you liked the blooms. My mango tree is rather small and since our land is low-lying it's not doing well. Too much water for the roots.

Anna, thanks. The dove spotted me then!

Sweet bay, those doves must be lovely! Thank you for your comment on the blooms.

Mary Delle, thank you for stopping by. I was hoping they'd stay too but there's no sign of any activity today.

Unknown said...

Sue, thank you for stopping by. He must be~~they feel the heat too:)

Tyra, thanks for your comment and for the Swedish lesson! Hope you had a good weekend too. I'll stop by on Friday so that I can use this phrase. Very nice!

Margareta, hi! It's only through Blooming Friday posts/comments that I've realized how many plants you need to grow inside! Our weather has its disadvantages too but let me not crib now:) Thank you for stopping by.

Autumn Belle, now that you've said it, it sure looks like an orchid. When we were kids we always had these blooms in our garden. Now I long for all those blooms that was part of the landscape when we were growing up. Will check out your post soon!

Nicole, thanks! You'll love the lily too--easy to grow and all that. Glad to have you stop by.

How lovely to see the Dove peeking out at us Kanak ;) They really do seem to live up to their association with peace I think, they always have a sweet serenity about them.

Your blooms are beautiful, I love the lemon coloured Euphorbia.

I hope you enjoyed your short break and found some respite from the heat, it is quite autumnal here now and although we had lovely sunshine yesterday I felt cold all day. Today is grey and dull :( the sort of day I dislike more than any.

Unknown said...

Rocksea, your mom's collection must be stunning! I hope I get to see the pics some day!

Jan, thanks for your comment on my blooms. Exactly what I thought about the doves too when I clicked away. So gentle, so serene.

My break was really good because the place we went to was cooler by 10 degrees and the evening temp. was 15 degrees. And we returned to a cloudy day and showers at night . Maybe the heat will say its goodbye:) Hoping for the best!

Hi Kanak, I always enjoy coming here to see what's in your garden. I like the spotted lily and the crown of thorns flowers. That dove looks cute hiding up in the mango tree. October is your hottest month? Ours is July. But this summer was rather cool and rainy. And now it's autumn - more rain and cool temps. Oh well....
Have a good weekend! (oops, it's tuesday now). Never mind - I hope you had a good break.

julian said...

Is the leopard lily also known as a tiger orchid?? It looks similar I think...

Unknown said...

Wendy, hi! October isn't the hottest month. May to August are the worst! September should've been kinder but it wasn't! At least, not this year. All the signs of Mother earth getting hotter....

I had a good break and I'll be posting on that. Glad to read your comment. Hope you had a good weekend too:)

Hi Julian, the other name of the Leopard lily is the Blackberry lily. Thanks for stopping by.

julian said...

Hmm ok thanks :) i must say it does look similar to the 'tiger orchid' - I got a photo here: http://tropical-gardening.blogspot.com/search/label/tiger%20orchid

OK it's different... but the colours are similar almost the same! :)

Unknown said...

Julian, thanks for getting back here! I'd say only the spots are the same:) Will check out the site later....Have a great weekend! It's going to be Friday very soon!!
