A Feathered Blessing

Poor indeed is the garden in which birds find no homes.
~Abram L. Urban

I'd noticed this bird on the wire and on this tree as
if waiting for something, and definitely not in any
hurry to fly away.

We have a tin and bamboo shed where knicks and knacks
are kept. I went in there a few days ago and there she
was, guarding after her nest. I was so happy at the sight,
at the thought of the babies here, in my plot. I went to
get the camera and clicked a few pictures but when I got
too close, the bird flew away.

Taking this opportunity, I took the fledgeling out of the nest
(it'd stirred) and took these shots. Of course I was very gentle
and the beautiful baby was such an angel that it did not 'cheep'
or show any sign of discomfort.

I've never had the opportunity to hold a pigeon fledgeling.
And who can say whether birds will build their nests again
in my yard. Had the nest been on a tree I wouldn't have had
the chance to click and to hold a creation as wonderful as
this feathered beauty!

Hope is the thing with feathers
That perches in the soul
And sings the tune without the words
and never stops at all.

Emily Dickinson

The baby looks so vulnerable. No wonder the mother has to stand guard. It's always good to see wildlife in the garden, although some are more welcome than others!

What a cute little baby bird! I'm sure Momma is quite protective.

Oh,lucky, lucky you!! What a privilege to get to hold such a precious little thing. I wonder how old it is. His little feet aren't so little are they?

Thanks Easygardener. Some are more welcome, very true.

Jane Marie, thank you for your visit.

Thank you Racquel, that's right. If she's not with the baby, she's out on the tree. I did get a little worried today as several crows were on the wire and safety was my prime concern. But the mother-baby duo is fine.

Thanks Carla, I know. I just feel so lucky to have a wonder as lovely as this!

Thanks Tina. I really didn't know baby pigeons looked like this! The beak, especially.

Susie, thanks. Its about a week old
but I'm guessing... The tiny feet now resemble the mother's . I'll be posting more pics in a day or so.

Garden Bloggers, thank you for your visit.
