Blue-eyed Damselfly

Guess who looked at me in the eye yesterday but said nothing?;-)
A blue and red damselfly perched on a dry gladiolus leaf! Last
summer, there were many of these beauties in my yard and I was
very happy to see at least one of them again, this early. They
abound in the rainy season. I'm still waiting for the reds and
the vibrant yellows.

It flew to another leaf and arched its body into a circle.

What a joy to be greeted by a sight like this! It was 11.30 in
the morning. The day was cloudy and I'd gone to check whether
the gazanias were ready to rise and shine. But no, as you can see
from the photo below, they were still bleary-eyed. So unlike their
wide-eyed bed-fellows!!

Kanak,

Very cool unlike any damselfly i have ever seen! The red and blue make it stand out. Our local pond damselfly is an Azure Bluet, you'll see it soon enough on my blog.

Got photos of my first butterfly of the season today a male Falcate Orangetip.

Pretty, the colourful damsel flys. What great blue eyes I have got, said the damsel. Gazanias always get up late and early to bed; they can't help themselves.

I'd say he was definitely showing off for you. I enlarged the picture and I loved the details. I don't think I have ever seen one of these. Thanks for sharing him with us Kanak!

Randy, this one is the most striking of the lot...maybe because of the combination of these colours. Looking forward to seeing your blue damsels. And great to know about the first butterfly...means there'll be lots coming! Cheers to that!

Thanks Trudi. I planted gazanias for the first time so the early nights and late mornings is a novelty to me!:)

Racquel, glad you like 'em!

That's it Susie, here's hoping that more bugs will do the same! I hope the rain in MS has vanished!

What a wonderful dame, she's Kanak! So many colors in an insect! That too noticeable. Cool!

Thanks Helen, I disn't have to wait all that long. I think butterflies need more patience than damsels.

Chandramouli, I hope to get good shots of all the other coloured damsels. The'll be here when the rainy season starts.
