Egret Moments

The other day I was watering my plants on the terrace when I was
greeted by this sight! It was early, a little after 7 AM and as you
can see from the picture, it was a grey and cloudy morning. What a
delightful surprise it was to see not one, but three egrets on the
top of my coconut tree! Now egrets are a common sight in open fields
but seeing them in my garden was wonderful indeed!

I didn't see them fly in so I assumed that they must've spent the night
on the tree. They all looked groggy-eyed and seemed in no particular
hurry to fly to their next destination.

I did manage to get some shots and it was as if they were complying
to my telepathic requests. LOL! Preen!

Look straight ahead! Don't move!

Now look down!

Look up! Try not to roll your eyes and yawn...we don't get a
chance like this everyday!

One of them sensed my presence, flapped its beautiful white wings
and took off. The others followed soon after.Too bad I couldn't
get them in flight...I only managed a blurry shot. Ah well, I might
get one soon because when all the wild colocasia die back in the
swampy areas, they come to forage there. Now that they've 'discovered'
my coconut tree, it's likely that they'll be here again. Love the
thought!

I love it when birds come visiting like this, especially the ones we normally dont see in our garden. I'm always torn between running for the camera or standing there and enjoying the moment. I'm glad you could capture these photos for us, though :)

I'm thrilled you were able to take the photos too Kanak. What fun to have these in the garden and get the different "poses" from them! Thank you for sharing these with us. They are beautiful. Have a happy day.

What a nice group of surprise visitors, Kanak. That first shot is especially lovely. Surely this must be the first of many visits!

cheers,
Wilma

It is so beautiful. I always wonder how they can keep their feathers so white ;-)
If I could only keep my white clothes so bright and white.

What a thrill Kanak! Fancy seeing those in the garden...just wonderful :) We do have Little Egrets and Cattle Egrets here but only in recent years and I have never seen either yet. As you say I'm sure they will return now they have found you.

I am playing catch up again! I loved all the colourful blooms on the previous post, the orange Canna is a beauty.

I also enjoyed the onion post, I love onions, they make a meal so tasty and the smell of them frying is just wonderful!

Oh! I nearly forgot to say how nice to have Doves nesting in the garden and you took such lovely photos of them.

Have a great week Kanak :)

Sunita...it's all luck too, isn't it? Sometimes they still hang on and sometimes they're gone when you run for the camera.

Mildred...thanks. Sundays are usually busy days...more chores and more cooking! I couldn't respond to all the messages earlier. But coming that to the birds, I did have pond herons coming to the same tree last year.

Wilma...thanks! I hope it is. Would love to capture them again!

Lona, how true! They're indeed very beautiful and the white is lovely!

Noelle...these unexpected surprises are the best of all. On a regular basis, I'm used to birds that are much smaller.

Donna...thank you so much! Love that you stopped by.

Sandi...I know:) I wish the next visits would be like this too. Loathe to move....

Debbie...exactly what I feel, a blessing! Thanks for stopping by.

Padma, I did think about your post and the swamp in your area which had egrets. Glad to know they're visiting you too:-)

Jan, I love it when you play catch up!! Always glad to read your comments on my earlier posts...the blooms as well as the onions.

You must've noticed that the birds who come here aren't colourful. I think the bright ones visit others' gardens:( It's a pleasure to visit you and see all those bright plumes, and in flight too!

Have a great week!

James, thank you so much!

Meems...so glad you stopped by. I usually have smaller birds in my yard so the excitement of seeing larger ones was really something!
