Wasp Moments

Please click on the pictures for a better view.

Regular winged visitors to my garden are small bees, common
grass yellow and cabbage white butterflies. But the other day
I was greeted by the sight of this magnificent yellow wasp
feeding on a bloom of the same colour!

A closer look revealed lovely dark brown markings on the back.
Although I wished it'd turn and show me its best angle--the
whole body captured in all its designer (for that's what it
looked like) detail, it was so engrossed in its ambrosian
pursuit that it didn't have the time to read my mind. Ah well,
there's always a next time!

What incredible photos Kanak! I've never seen a wasp like that. I like your new header photo too. Hope you are having a good day.

So glad to read your comment Mildred. Thank you so much! The header photo is the one I'd taken recently on a visit to my hometown.
I just hope the yellow wasp comes on a flying visit again:)

It looks like a big garden spider, a variety we have here. It is sure pretty. I could see it without enlarging the photo, but once I enlarged the photo the legs showed up so much better.

The wasp IS magnificent, but I think I would be nervous if I found it in MY garden.

What a large wasp and so beautifully colored too. Great photos today Kanak!

That's a big one! And you're so lucky to be able to get it with your camera! When I try, the birds and the bees always fly away...
Lovely photos!

It probably thought it would sit on a flower and never be noticed. It did not take your sharp eyes into account (lol)

No doubt, its a wonderful wasp.I like that color pattern on it.

This wasp in the first pic seems like that it is almost fading away.

If the focus is only on the bee, you should crop it for the better result.

I know its a very difficult shot because sometimes while taking such shots, we're almost uncertain about the next different movements of these flying insects.

Colour contrast can help.

Butt I am all praise for your second pic. It made me realize how beautiful this wasp is.

Love, mania

Tina, it had a very thin waist but that's not visible in the photo. It's bigger than other members of its family though.

Jodi, I was very careful. One jerky movement and I knew that I'd miss my chance or get stung!!

Racquel, thank you so much!

Helen, that has happened to me too. So many times! Other bloggers had told me many times that such a day or days would come.
All the best with the bees, birds...you'll get them.

Easygardener, I know, I know! Lol!!

Mania, colour contrast would've definitely looked better if the wasp had chosen a flower of some other colour. That thought was on my mind as I clicked at it. But with insects, you can never say. One can only hope and pray that it does not take off when one clicks!

Thank you for your comment.

Wonderful closeup, Kanak. As far as the beauty's concerned I vote for wasps than for Bees. Okay, okay... I admit that we don't get many bees here - that's why! :P

Kanak, I've never seen a wasp like that. I'm not a fan of them but this one has pretty markings. So do you know if this kind of wasp stings? If it does I have a feeling that would hurt pretty bad!

Unknown said...

Thanks Chandramouli, I'd say the same too. I find wasps fascinating. Reminds me, there's not much variety with bees here as well, or maybe I haven't been much of a bee-tracker!!

Susie, that's a thought which is on my mind everytime I shoot a wasp or a carpenter bee. I get the shivers if I think about their stings. I'm sure an attack would be very painful.

Kanak I would think that was a real "Gasp!" moment !
Its so big... could it be a hornet like the one in my Garden Tea-Party post?
I wish I had a waist like that... maybe if I go around poking my nose in flowers ... no, wait, I already do that ! :D

Unknown said...

That sounds so much better Sunita. Gasp moment, indeed!
It could be...I'm not too sure. I'll go check your hornet now. It's the same with me too...everytime I see a wasp the waist thing comes to mind...Once upon a time I had a waist! Sigh!!
